Does the end really justify the means? by Joe Gresham Southern Independence Party of Kentucky February 28, 2004 A couple of days ago, I ran into a dear friend of mine. He is a sincere, devout Christian man, as a matter of fact, he's a deacon at the Church I used to belong to. I have always thought very highly of him and his family, and I still do. Though I am sure he thinks me to be "just a bit radical" in my views, because I happen to think "outside of the box" that is considered "politically correct". Never the less, we have always been friends, ever since I've known him. We stood and talked for several minutes, and during the course of our conversation, he mentioned that he was checking out government auctions and sales. We discussed all of the bargains that can be had by buying surplus, or no longer used items through them. Then he mentioned buying "seized" items, from the government. At this point, I told him; "I would have a hard time with that, if I knew it was seized or confiscated property...it is so wrong and un-Constitutional". My friend then asked, "Even if it was from a drug bust?" I immediately replied, "YES! Either the Constitution IS the Supreme Law of the Land or IT'S NOT!" I had to leave and I'm not sure if my friend ever understood what it was that I objected to. This exchange troubled me, it troubled me because my friend's view is common among most law abiding, Christian, decent people. They realize that drugs are a scourge upon our society and naturally they oppose them. They respect the "law" and abide by it. So when the "law" catches or even accuses someone of drug posession or whatever, they figure "He had it coming, get him off the streets", they don't realize how cops are grossly violating all of our rights, when they haul some poor slob away and seize all of his posessions. They are establishing a pattern and precedent, which can eventually ensnare any or all of us. There is a reason the Founding Fathers created our government with a separation of powers, and that reason is exactly what we are witnessing today. The cops are acting as police, prosecutor, judge and jury. This would be a travesty EVEN IF the accused is guilty. But what is worse, is the fact that it's happening to an alarming number of people who are totally and completely innocent. I often cite this true example. A few years ago, I read of a nurseryman, from somewhere up north, on a business trip (in Florida, I believe) he was buying nursery stock for his business. He had a large amount of cash on him, as he was doing a lot of business. The "law" discovered he was carrying this "large sum of cash", and he was arrested for being a "drug dealer", they seized his car, his money, and they locked him up. His car was sold at auction. It cost him a very large sum to prove he was innocent, he only got a small portion of his money back, and spent time incarcerated. This, in a place where we're supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty." All for the crime of carrying some cash around. This is not an isolated incident, this sort of abuse is being repeated many times daily, all across this land. Innocent or guilty, it's criminal for the "law" to ignore our rights and subject us to this despotic tyrannical treatment. After the discussion with my friend, as I stated earlier, I was troubled...well, as I drove away, it hit me. The perfect analogy. If confiscation is alright, as long as it gets a few "bad guys" off the streets, and if "the end really does justify the means"...then I have a plan all Christians should support. Since most Christians believe there is an age of accountability, and prior to that age, all children that die will go to Heaven. let's support mass abortion, or murder of young children. Hey, all the kids will go to Heaven! I think NOT! Christian people, wake up!
