What Would Jefferson Davis Do?
by Joe Gresham

In recent years a fad among Christians has become quite popular. The "WWJD" or "What Would Jesus Do?" slogan has shown up on everything from bracelets to bumper stickers. That is a very good thing to contemplate, and may just be a good reminder of how we should strive for Christ like attitude, actions and lifestyle.

I feel, as Southerners, there is another important reminder of righteousness, and of opposition to tyranny and oppression, as well.  One that would remind us of the gallant and selfless efforts made by our ancestors, to prevent the very mess that we now face daily.

Never, before the First Tyrant (Lincoln), could the treasonous acts of recent times have occurred.  He was the originator of the American Empire, the truly Evil Empire, if you will.  But that Empire has come a long way down the highway of despotism. In Lincoln's day, he was the evil and wicked one.  He, along with a few close confidants orchestrated personally the laying aside of the Constitution and it's safeguards.  There were still other branches of government attempting to prevent the complete loss of all rights.  Congress and the Supreme Court took him to task on a few occasions.

Today however, we are subjected to total and unimpeded tyranny and totalitarianism. Today our controlled media and government indoctrination centers, laughingly referred to as "schools", have created a mindset incapable of intellectual discernment and thought. So completely incapable of thought, as to actually welcome, massive encroachments on and losses of their personal liberties.

Today Congress and the courts are also co-conspirators.  Congress drafts and passes the bills, and the president signs the bills knowing full well that is so obviously un-Constitutional that a blind man could see it. Recently President Bush admitted as he was signing a bill into law, that it was not Constitutional, but he still signed it. Then the courts uphold these fraudulent works of Marxism as legitimate.

It can surely be considered nothing less than treason for Congress to approve even a single piece of minor legislation, without first reading and studying it. But this has happened at least twice (that I am aware of) with major bills, in very recent times, probably more.

The first example I am aware of, was with the so-called "PATRIOT ACT", a monumental and broad reaching bill supposedly designed to make us more safe and secure "at home" from the threat of "terrorism."  The fact is, it did absolutely nothing to make us more secure, it simply placed a noose of oppression around the necks of all Americans. It robbed us of most of our fundamental rights of privacy and personal security.  Anyway, Representative Ron Paul, from Texas pitched a fit and demanded to at least be shown a summary of the bill to look at prior to voting on it.  After viewing the summary, he and two other representatives voted against the bill, because of it's un-Constitutional nature.  Of course Mr. Paul and the other two men of integrity were castigated as "unpatriotic" for their righteous vote of conscience.

The second occasion of this treason was the recently passed "9-11 Intelligence Reform bill," that was promoted by both major parties as yet another bill necessary for our "safety."  This was a bill of both monstrous proportion and monstrous design, over 3,000 pages, again it was unavailable for review and study before the vote, not even a summary was made available for this bill prior to the vote. This most recent attack on freedom, supposedly contains provisions for a national ID, and national driver's license, though no one seems to know for sure. It passed by a large margin, Mr. Paul along with seventy some others voted against it.

So in the not too distant future, we can look forward to the empire's Gestapo stopping us as we walk or drive and asking us for our "papers," just as in Hitler's Nazi Germany.

As to the question asked by the title of this piece: "What would Jefferson Davis do?"
I think the answer is more than obvious.  The real question now is "What are we going to do?"
